It's High Tide for Change

Welcome to Gulf Coast TIDE's brand new website! This year marks a new wave for gcTIDE with several promising community projects on the horizon and a stronger sense of connectivity between members and non-members alike. What are these new changes? Infrastructure. Support. Organization.

Through the years, gcTIDE has made strides in developing and fostering a healthy interaction among members of the LGBT community; both to those who are out and proud and to those who prefer to retain a sense of anonymity… and the outlook only looks brighter for 2007. This year marks the start of a new goal; a new agenda: Education. Advocacy. Growth and Community. gcTIDE invites you to make it happen.

In order to achieve these goals, gcTIDE has undergone some major restructuring. This year saw the formation of a new panel of board members, a promising drive in volunteer members and one hell of a big idea.

educationPensacola and the surrounding areas will see two events coordinated by gcTIDE to help educate locals on the issues and adversities faced by LGBT members.

Save the date for our annual LGBT Film Fest in March. And be sure to visit us in Seville Park during our Third Annual Pensacola Pride Fest in October. And if you really want to, be sure to check the local scene for partnerships with the University of West Florida’s Gay-Straight Alliance and other local non-profit organizations like PFLAG.

advocacyKeep yourself abreast of the local news by subscribing to our enewsletter, the News Splash. Or, browse through our directory of local support-based organizations helping to promote advocacy, education and acceptance.

gcTIDE also advocates safer sex efforts for youth and helps to raise money for local charities including Appetite for Life and Dining Out for Life. Partnerships with Equality Florida, The Human Rights Campaign, and the ACLU help build long-lasting relationships that help you.

growthMore than anything, gcTIDE is about personal growth: Accepting yourself is the first step in accepting others. gcTIDE works with local organizations, such as GEARS, to help youth who have recently come out in finding a support system and placing them in a healthy situation that promotes positive growth and interaction.

If you're a parent or friend who wants to show support but doesn't know how, then PFLAG may be just for you!

communityThrough all of these methods, gcTIDE aims to create a greater sense of community along the Gulf Coast. You are always welcome to join us for our First Thursday Social to talk about current events, future goals, or just to get out of the house.

Take a breath of fresh air and sign-up for several member-run activities such as dancing classes, bowling leagues, and tournaments. Or, if you prefer online interaction over face-to-face, then browse the forums and meet other like-minded people working on shaping a better community.
